USA East Coast Hurricane Power Outages Disrupt Communications
As many of you are aware, the Eastern USA has experienced a Hurricane and Tropical Storm over the weekend. Particularly affected are the States of North Carolina, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, and New York.
The IAM, International Association of Movers has heard from several IAM Members in the areas affected who have reported their electricity, phones, and computer services (email) have been knocked out.
Due to the widespread damage, some of these areas may be out of power for quite some time. With restoration efforts being hampered by flooding, parts of New Jersey may not have their power restored until September 4th.
Abels Moving Services has received confirmation of its partners continuing to operate and that storage facilities whilst being effected have escaped the worst of the storm and customers possessions are safe, dry and covered.
PORTS – We understand the ocean ports in the affected areas are operating normally, with minimal disruptions.
Abels are checking on our shipments moving in or out of these USA East Coast ports, and we have been advised of a number of delays where vessels have been held back to avoid danger instead of entering their designated berth. Small backlogs are being experienced which should be resolved relatively quickly.
AIRPORTS – JFK and Newark International Airports reopened on Tuesday morning the 30th ; however, it is expected to take several days of repositioning planes and crews before service returns to normal flight schedules.
Should you have any concerns over your particular USA shipments please contact you Abels Customer Liaison or call +1842 816600 / email shipping@abels.co.uk
