Regent Street Motor Show 2016 – Abels to Display 3 Vehicles

  • News

The Regent Street Motor Show 2016 will take place this year on Saturday the 5th November 2016. As a prequel to the Bonhams London to Brighton Veteran Car Run supported by Hiscox which sees pre 1905 vehicles departing at dawn from Hyde Park on Sunday morning.

There will be a range of veteran, vintage and classic motoring on display at the show in Regent Street. This includes vehicles from the world’s biggest classic motor racing festival the Silverstone Classic; the vintage buses taking part in this year’s London to Brighton Veteran Car Run, following a fundraising auction by Chris Evans on BBC Radio 2 in support of BBC Children in Need; along with historic removal vehicles used by Abels Moving Services.

At the Regent Street Motor Show 2016 there will be 3 Abels vehicles on display. The Abels display consists of; Abels Horse Drawn Pantechnicon c1896, Abels 1941 Bedford MLD Removal Truck and a Modern Abels Removal Truck.

Abels Moving Services has a rich moving heritage and was awarded The Queens Royal Warrant for Removals & Storage Services in 1988 – a proud honor which they hold to this day.

Abels proudly owns a 1896 horse-drawn removal pantechnicon (as used in days gone by for the movement of personal possessions), which they are honoured to showcase at the Regent Street Motor Show the day prior to the Bonhams London to Brighton Veteran Car Run supported by Hiscox https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/London_to_Brighton_Veteran_Car_Run which we are pleased to support through provision of the transportation of luggage for the participants. The removal trucks used for this are thankfully more modern and come equipped with state-of-the-art technology but you can take a look at removal vehicles through the ages at the Show, with displays of:

Abels’ Horse Drawn Pantechnicon Built in 1896 (the year of the emancipation run for motor vehicles!) by Hyde & Cheshire, this piece of history has leaf spring suspension and candle lamp lights. The driver & horseman would sit on top, completely open to the elements.

Abels 1941 Bedford MLD Removal Truck original registration was DWP 40, built during the war to help our war effort, this was bodied in 1951 as a removal van. In 1967 was stood down and left to deteriorate and then in 1983 underwent a 7 year full restoration project.

Abels Modern Removal Truck with its 16 gears, 12.9 litre engine, 3600 cubic feet volume capacity, spit flooring for car transport and winch, all around air-suspension soft ride system, full alarm and immobilizer, surround camera system, halogen headlight, fog-lights and driver comforts including 3-man sleeping accommodation, air-con, night heater, fridge, cooker, cruise control, lane departure warning and stability control – this shows that things have moved on somewhat!
