Moving to Oman – Port Sultan Qaboos Container Freight Station Closure

  • News

For customers planning on moving to Oman, Abels Moving Services have been updated by our agents about the closure of the Port Sultan Qaboos (PSQ) in Oman to Container and Freight Traffic.

There has been a decision made by the Government of Oman to convert the Container Freight Station at the Port Sultan Qaboos in Muscat into a tourism port effective 1st of January 2015. All ocean carriers calling at the Port Sultan Qaboos are now working on rescheduling their vessel calls to another port – this is the Port of Sohar.

Some of the container shipping carriers calling at Port Sultan Qaboos have started issuing trade notifications advising of the dates of their last port calls at Port Sultan Qaboos and their first port calls at the Port of Sohar. The carriers of Maersk and Safmarine have announced their last vessel call at Port Sultan Qaboos to be on the 29th of May 2014 and their first vessel to call at the Port of Sohar port to be on the 1st of June 2014. Other carriers will soon be notifying details of the changes they are making when moving to use the facilities at the Port of Sohar.

The Container Freight Station (CFS) facility at the Port of Sohar will be operational shortly and there will be new procedures and shipping instructions to follow for groupage containers once the facility at Sohar is up and running.
