Berlin has a highly developed cycle lane network, with an estimated 710 bicycles per 1,000 residents. The city also has one of the lowest car ownership rates per capita in Europe.

Berlin is also home to one of the largest teaching university hospitals in the world. It has over 8,000 students and 14,000 staff, creating plenty of job opportunities for anyone moving here.

Worth visiting once you’ve settled in: the Zoologischer Garten Berlin, the older of the city’s two zoos. The Internationales Congress Centrum is worth a look too. The Deutsches Theater is worth a visit too, one of around 50 theatres across the city.

Berlin’s single commercial airport is Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER). It opened in 2020, replacing the city’s former Tegel and Schönefeld airports, both now closed. BER handled around 26 million passengers in 2025, making it Germany’s third-busiest airport after Frankfurt and Munich.
